The 2015 figure is a model-based snapshot; approximately 15 billion trees are lost annually (net decline per Crowther et al. 2015). The script does NOT claim a current count — it attributes the figure to scientists and says "about three trillion," signaling a known estimate. Even after ~11 years of net loss (~165 billion trees), Earth's forests still hold roughly 2.8 trillion trees — still at least seven times the high-end star count.
