What we refused to claim

“"Trillions of trees" as a live, current count.”

The 2015 figure is a model-based snapshot; approximately 15 billion trees are lost annually (net decline per Crowther et al. 2015). The script does NOT claim a current count — it attributes the figure to scientists and says "about three trillion," signaling a known estimate. Even after ~11 years of net loss (~165 billion trees), Earth's forests still hold roughly 2.8 trillion trees — still at least seven times the high-end star count.

“Exact precision of either number.”

Star counts carry large uncertainty bands; the tree count is a model estimate from ground + satellite data. The script uses "about" (trees) and "at least seven times" (comparison) to hedge appropriately.

Publishing what we refused to claim is the strongest evidence the rest was checked.
